The role reports to the Field Service Manager located in Auburn Hills, MI. The target locations are Illinois IL, Michigan MI and Indiana IN, but candidates that have the required experience are welcome to apply! As a member of the ABB US Robotics Service Team, the Robotics Field Service Technician – Paint /Sealer application position has a high impact on corporate revenues and on effectively servicing customers. Responsiveness, communication, and continuous follow-up are key components of providing excellent customer service to our customers. This person is a primary interface between the customer and the ABB Robotic Service Organization and plays a significant role in determining the Company’s image as viewed by the customer. The field organization is greatly dependent on this person’s efficient follow-through and communications.

Your responsibilities

• Perform on-call emergency repairs of ABB Robotics system equipment in the field.
• Provide system integration support of ABB robots to designated build shops as well as the end-users. Perform robot program changes such as logic, software, and path alterations through either off-line or on-line methodology.
• Have a mechanical aptitude for performing any mechanical component repair or replacement. Provide robot specific or systems training in an informal environment to customers as required.
• Have knowledge of PLC communications and other robotic peripheral equipment.
• Ability to communicate with customers (external and internal) in high-pressure situations and maintain strong customer relationships. Ability to be proactive to support customer needs and strong initiative in finding work activities during slow periods.
• Capable of traveling on short notice and handle rigors of air travel and submit sales leads for additional Robotic and system opportunities while communicating work location and status daily. Ability to think analytically and to work autonomously, and make sound judgments also should have an option to relocate.

Your background

• High school diploma, or GED, with 3 years of experience in automation, robotics, field service, maintenance, paint or sealing process, OR Associates Degree, preferably in a technical field, and minimum of 1 year of experience with automation, robotics, field service, maintenance, paint or sealing process, OR Bachelor’s Degree, in a technical field, and minimum experience required.
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.
• Open to travel 85%, but for individuals that live in the target area (IL, MI, IN) the travel time will be less than that.
• Preferred qualifications: experience with ABB robots and paint and/or sealer experience are highly preferred. Minimum of 1 year of electronic and mechanical skills preferred but not required.
• Troubleshooting through deductive reasoning. Formal training or equivalent experience preferred with the ability to read and understand electrical drawings. Computer skills (DOS, Windows).
