Senior Data Warehouse Engineer

This is a Full-time position in Chicago, IL posted March 1, 2021.

Location- Chicago, IL or Beloit, WI (currently remote)

Duration- Direct Permanent Hire 

Position- Senior Data Warehouse Engineer

SUMMARY                                                                                                                   

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for guiding Data Sciences and Information Consumers at Company to successfully leverage our data investments.  This role will greatly influence the design and structure of our enterprise analytical datasets.  Serves the organization by enabling all internal team members, enterprise architecture and the information consumers to use best practices.  This will include creating solution designs, data dictionaries and artifacts to educate and share the vision for our analytics solutions/platform.  You will assist leadership in identifying disruptive technology and contribute to our five year roadmap.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with business and technical teams to deliver enterprise grade datasets that are reliable, flexible, scalable, and provide low cost of ownership.
  • Analyzes and estimates feasibility, costs, time, and resources needed to develop, and implement enterprise datasets as needed.
  • Create and advocate the use of standards around data documentation. 
  • Advocate for the use of enterprise datasets on advanced analytical applications.  Work with Data Science teams to educate and promote good stewardship of our data lake. 
  • Ensure systems meet business requirements and industry practices
  • Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
  • Employ a variety of languages and tools (e.g. scripting languages) to marry systems together
  • Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to publish and contribute to architecture standards and roadmaps.
  • Achieves and maintains relevant technical competencies and helps to foster an environment of continued growth and learning among colleagues on existing and emerging technologies.
  • Mentor team members and acts as a technical lead for less senior team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:  BS/BA in computer science, software engineering or mathematics.
  • Professional Experience:  Minimum six  years of experience in design, development, administration, troubleshooting of analytics applications and/or data pipelines. 
  • As a major or sole contributor created a data warehouse or large data mart in a EDW setting.
  • Experience using and preferably having implemented analytics/bi platforms.
  • Expert in data modeling, with heavy emphasis on analytics focused approaches like dimensional modeling.
  • Experience working for IT to serve enterprise analytics. 
  • Python experience or aptitude a strong plus.
  • Strong technical capabilities and aptitude
  • Strong knowledge of application development concepts and practices.
  • Strong understanding of networking and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with continuous integration/delivery systems and/or practices.
  • Experience with Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Snowflake, Tableau, Azure Batch, Azure App, Docker all pluses.
