Vice President, Earned Media (Health

This is a Full-time position in Chicago, IL posted February 12, 2021.

n n nn The Vice President, Health Media must manage accounts and projects by providing media counsel and strategic overview.

S/he must be able to manage the earned media budgets and team on sizable pieces of business to achieve client goals.

S/he is also responsible for the professional growth and training of junior team members.

S/he must have exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to multi-task efficiently.

S/he must have strong contacts and working relationships with local and national news media, understand basic visual asset production (video, GIFs, Vines) and how to use them, as well as work with data analysts to track success of those assets within earned stories.

nn nBasic Qualificationsn At least eight years of experience of doing predominantly earned media work  nPreferred Qualificationsn S/he must be able to demonstrate excellent storytelling skills, and provide sound, level-appropriate media counsel with all levels of internal client contacts This position requires proven management and leadership skills as well as a proven track record of executing large scale campaigns at the strategic and tactical level S/he must be able to manage the media budgets and team on sizable pieces of business to achieve client goals S/he must have strong contacts and working relationships with local and national news media, understanding of basic television production and video terminology.

Previous experience with agency and/or media outlet is preferred Ability to write strategic media plans and a variety of media materials with limited oversight Experience launching and promoting consumer products via earned media, particularly in the health and wellness space Experience managing product launches, celebrity campaigns, milestone announcements, media events, participate in desk-side briefings, etc.

High awareness of current events Expert in studio and production facilities/services Proven ability to explain technical portion to client in an easy manner Expert in knowledge of TV, radio, print, and online media nResponsibilities and Expectationsn Review drafts of media monitoring reports and trackers Demonstrate ability to report media and critically think about how news may influence client programming, perceptions, positioning, etc.

Effectively pitch stories via email and verbally to reporters at local market print and broadcast outlets, national radio, industry trades, online and consumer long-lead outlets; effectively secure editor attendance and/or participation in events and desk-side briefings Understand and utilize online media effectively as part of the media mix (including social media vehicles/tools) Manage level-appropriate media program tactics, identify and prioritize media opportunities, coordinate all aspects of a media interview, sending timely pitch updates, showcasing hits, etc.

Proactively develop and offer fresh story angles to internal account teams and clients Distribute press releases and multi-media content through a variety of channels/mechanisms Oversee management of high level feature and news placements / channel planning Participate in brainstorming and prospecting, and create proposals Display superior presentation skills including confidence in presenting to clients Look for opportunities to develop business with existing clients (including cross-selling) and with potential clients Final editing responsibility for all agency
– and client-generated documents Write and manage a variety of high level documents for a variety of audiences Provide regular media counsel to clients as required by account teams Build strong and lasting relationships with clients and operate as day to day internal and/or external client lead as appropriate; address client issues thoughtfully and effectively Effectively navigate and manage potential internal/external client issues; showcase an ability to course correct and provide strategic and effective solutions Lead the research, planning and development of comprehensive media relations programs and new business pitches, along with the Vice President and Senior Vice President, and participate in new business pitches Regular and consistent contact with clients’ marketing, communications, and public affairs management teams Assist account team and counsel client on last minute media issues/opportunities (both proactive and reactive) In-depth communication with a variety of national and local media on behalf of clients; maintain and pitch key media contacts across TV, radio, print, and online media Propose and provide strategic media analysis and counsel to clients and target audiences Generate ideas for media outreach/strategy; provide media strategy to new business proposals and at clients’ requests Assist in development of creative platforms to account teams to increase effectiveness/impact of media campaigns Develop network of industry clients; participate in relevant professional organizations Challenge staff to ensure they work on a variety of projects Actively encourage and support the development and learning of self and others Ensure goals and expectations are clear and that subordinates are consistently measured and rewarded for achieving them Possess intermediate strategic thinking abilities Focus on business improvements and ambitious to achieve excellence and constantly search for opportunities to grow the group’s business Promote and endorse organizational change efforts Act as a positive role model for effective team work, facilitate the operation of the team of which they are a part Focus team on delivering goals and ensure that business targets are achieved Provide proactive media counsel to account teams, alerting them of changes in media environment Understand the role of more junior staff and step in to assist as needed  Edelman is a global communications firm that partners with businesses and organizations to evolve, promote and protect their brands and reputations.
