Job SummaryThe Veterinary Receptionist plays a dynamic role in the efficient operation of PAWS Chicago and provides excellent front of house customer service in a fast-paced clinic environment.

The receptionist is professional and respectful when interacting with clients and patients.Duties and Responsibilities* Preparation and maintenance of medical records, over the counter sales, mailings, computer operation, financial transactions, and front office and reception area* Answers clinic phones, returns messages, forwards messages to appropriate staff in a timely manner* Schedule and confirm appointments via phone, electronically and in person.* Liaises with rescue and transport partners about questions, accounts receivable, schedules, etc* Use clinic software to update patient information, produce medical records, schedule appointments, etc.* Ensure mail and deliveries are received and dispersed timely* Clean lobby floor, chairs, counter tops after customers leave* Restock lobby literature, forms and office supplies as needed* Assist with surgery check ins, vaccine clinic and feral trap instructions and dispensing* Communicate basic veterinary concepts to owners and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian* Perform other duties as assigned by managementRequirements* High School Diploma or GED* Bilingual (Spanish) required* Veterinary practice experience strongly preferred* Be proficient with desktop computer, email system, Microsoft suite * Ability to work well under pressure with excellent multi-tasking skills* Must be able to learn basic veterinary medical concepts including but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks PAWS Chicago Values-in-Action* Respect:  for each and every life.* Community:  of people and organizations committed to helping homeless pets.* Innovation:  to constantly improve best practices and seek out new ideas and strategies to save more lives.  To be a Learning Center that evolves and grows.* Pro-activity:  to solve difficult problems and to be prepared to offer emergency and crisis support.* Transparency:  that informs the public about the fate of homeless animals.* Education:  that raises awareness about the realities that homeless animals face in the community and across the nations, providing a forum for people to get involved in effecting change.  Promotes and support reasonable pet ownership.* Sustainability:  through financial management practices that maximize the impact and reach of our resources and endure that PAWS Chicago will always be a resource for homeless animals.* Compassion:  towards all people and animals.
